World Series Game 7 Captures 51M Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning contest where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51M spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB announced this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series averaged 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete US viewership was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M viewers, an 8% rise over last year and the network’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
